Bakersfield Sports

Bakersfield is probably known as one of the most enthusiastic motor sports towns that you can find in America. Home to the Bakersfield Speedway, Bakersfield hosts some of the best Saturday night racing that you can hope to witness; the World of Outlaws, specifically, has made the city even crazier over sprint car racing. Bakersfield is supportive of drag racing as well, thanks to the Famoso drag strip and the city's annual hosting of the March Meet (which also originated in Bakersfield). Soon, Bakersfield will also be home to NASCAR racing with the opening of a yet-unnamed track this upcoming 2008 racing season.

Apart from motor sports, football is seen as the most popular sport in Bakersfield. Cases in point would be the fact that the Bakersfield High School Football team has won the most number of times out of all the other high school football teams in the state as well as the fact that the Bakersfield collegiate football team has won four national championships. But it is generally agreed that it is Bakersfield high school football that has garnered fame for the city because more than a few Bakersfield football boys have ended up playing in the NFL.

Bakersfield also hosts amateur sports events that range from standard sports like tennis and less common sports like horseshoes.
