Bakersfield Culture
Bakersfield Culture
In terms of culture no-one can say that Bakersfield is left behind. When you are traveling around Bakersfield, there will be many sights and sounds to take in, many experiences to be had. There is, for example, the Kern County Museum in Chester Avenue which showcases some of the most interesting artifacts that you can find in the county's territories – the museum also has a rather educational children's section and an exhibit dedicated to the mining of oil (it's more interesting than it sounds, really!). Obviously, the museum also features an exhibit for the Bakersfield sound.
There are also many events in Bakersfield that are attractions in their own right. For example, it hosts the Scottish Games and Clan Gathering (put on your kilts!), an annual Greek Festival, a Native Gathering (for Native Americans) and the Kern County Fair (showcasing the best examples of their native agriculture as well as some top acts – also, a carnival!).
Should you feel a hankering for some grub but feel like immersing yourself in more Bakersfield experiences, then you don't need to fret – there are many restaurants that, while not exactly American, are historically bound to Bakersfield. There are some really old restaurants to be found there, and the fact that they are yet to close down is a testament to their quality. For the most part, these restaurants are Basque – so there is definitely some exoticism there.
